The Dam Project

Working Together To Complete The Dam Repairs!

When we work together as a team there is nothing that cant be accomplished!

7/25/2020

The dam repairs have been completed. A special thanks to Al Breton for leading the way. with this project from start to finish, The deterioration of the coffer dam was repaired and the water pumped out. A mud sucker truck cleaned the area. Forms and rebar mat were constructed and the concrete was pumped into place. After a few days of curing, the forms and temporary coffer dam were removed and the area was cleaned up.

The lake water continues to be at a very high level which makes it impossible to finish until the level drops below the coffer dam. the work that has already done insures that the dam will not fail.

Mother nature did not cooperate this fall. We had more rain than I can remember for this time of year. The water level overwhelmed our temporary dam making it impossible to complete the repairs. The good news is that the work that was done has solidified the dam and prevented any failure. We now have to wait for the winter season to end and the water level to drop so that the top slab and key wall can be constructed.

We stopped the Dam erosion. In October we built a temporary coffer dam with 1200 lb. blocks, plywood, tarpand crushed stone to block the water from flowing under the bridge. We  hired a mud sucker truck & removed mud, sand, rocks, branches, plastic, etc. We then purchased 9  cubic yards of concrete and had it pumped into the resulting huge hole. This formed a solid wall behind the dam face preventing water from flowing through the boulder face. Mother nature through us a curve ball and deluged us with several days of downpours that overran our coffer dam making it impossible to pour the reinforced concrete slab & key wall. We have been waiting for the level of the lake to drop so we could complete the project but it now appears that we have run out of time this year. As soon as the water level drops next year we will complete the project.

DelRay Construction spent two long days completing phase one of the Dam repair. The temporary dam was constructed with 1200 lbs. cement blocks, marine plywood, tarps, crushed stone and sandbags. Phase two next week will consist of installing a pump to control water seepage and mud sucking under the bridge. See photos below.

10-7-17: Sixteen volunteers met at the Skyline Quarry and filled one hundred and fifty sandbags then deposited them near the dam. Jerry Dwyer, Bill Keohane, Maureen Keohane, Dave Gauthier, Dominick Cristelli, Vic Laptik, Thomas Burns, Skylar Burns, Ron Campbell, Leon Veretto, Chris Veretto, Frank Kirchhof, Patty Kirchhof, Joe Breton, Dolores Breton, Al Breton. Thank you all for a fantastic job!

We will be fixing the dam in the next couple of weeks. We need volunteers to fill sand bags this Saturday, October 7th, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. We will meet at the dam (north end of the lake on Conklin road) at 9am and proceed to Skyline Quarry which closes at noon.

We have begun purchasing material for the Dam repair. The target date to start is late August or early September. The primary obstacle for starting is the high water level. This makes building a coffer dam to hold back the lake more difficult. Lets hope we don't get a great deal of rain before then..
